Any time we go on a hike I put on my hiking shoes. No surprise. But what turned this REI-scratch-and-dent find into a treasure were the insoles I put inside. At a outdoor fair a few years back, a Superfeet © rep gave me a blue pair to try out. What I didn’t know was its popularity. Later I was out on a business luncheon and surprisingly Superfeet were in the trunk of a colleage’s car. Recently I went skiing up north and saw Superfeet in the ski shop as ski boot inserts. Makes sense.

The other aspect I didn’t know was its premium quality. Superfeet works by having a firm, contoured shape, so it provides comfort that soft insoles cannot achieve. Would you feel more comfortable walking around if your back / body was in alignment? That’s another benefit of the insoles.

If you want more info on their sizing, dynamics, etc, check out their website: Superfeet.com. “Superfeet designs different insole models to improve the fit of all your footwear. No matter what type of activity or sport you engage in, Superfeet has a product for you – at a price you can afford.”

How do you have sad? No–S.A.D.: Seasonal Affective Disorder. You may be familiar with the “Winter Blues;” SAD is full-blown winter blues. Typical symptoms of SAD would be similar to those of depression, but with a seasonal cycle: beginning in the fall, peaking during winter-time, and often time resolving in the spring. But work environment plays a large role. Indoors during much of the day + working 50 weeks each year = ability to experience SAD symptoms all year long. Even more likely if windows are not a popular feature of your workspace.

What can you do to combat symptoms? If you’re really in dire straits, you can move somewhere with more light exposure. It’s true; the degree to which you have light exposure works its way into that equation above. So states that have a lot of regular sunlight throughout the state are Arizona, California, and Florida (among others). States on the opposite end of the spectrum would be Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan.

Another way to add pep to your life is to implement anti-depression tactics. Put on a favorite song. Exercise ~ motion creates positive emotion. Avoid sugar, caffeine, and processed foods. Pamper yourself with a nice, long bath.

A third way is always adding positive nutrients to your system. A few people I know have tried either Source Naturals’ St. John’s Positive Thoughts (check out evitamins.com; link disabled due to excessive spam) or the Bliss Anti-Stress Formula.

Regardless of which avenue(s) you choose, do your best to fight with a reaction that will bring positive results.

So it’s no shocker anymore about a shortage of money in America. Apparently printing more money is supposed to be the solution, huh? Well, all politics aside, there actually are a few actions you can take to free up money in America and make more available.

“In the United States alone, eliminating the number of deaths from just six diseases would result in hundreds of billions of dollars returned to the economy,” says The New Anti-Aging Revolution (p.13). The included list of diseases includes 1) cancer, 2) heart disease, 3) stroke, 4) circulatory disease, 5) influenza, and 6) AIDS. However, if eliminating all six diseases seems a little far-fetched, there are two that are mostly related to getting off your duff and being smart about eating choices. For example, according to Drs. Ronald Klatz & Robert Goldman, if America could eliminate circulatory disease deaths alone, the U.S. could save $5.8 trillion. So let’s say it’s not eliminated altogether—could we save a couple hundred thousand dollars by people increasing exercise and decreasing fast food consumption? Let’s take another example: Heart disease. Eliminating deaths from that one would save America $48.5 trillion. Crazy! Do you know anybody who could decrease their body fat and move around a little more? Would it be possible to ‘create’ a few million dollars in America by people taking control of their health?

Forget inactivity in the political arena. How about inactivity around the house or workplace? Politicians aren’t the only ones with the problem of not acting. An article written in Jan of ’09 (click here to read the article) gives numbers from 2005 – 2006 which are the most current statistic available from the government. Is it any surprise as you look around you in any given day that 32.7% of Americans are overweight? On top of that, 34% of Americans were obese! That’s over 72 million people! And still 6% more are obese! Think obesity doesn’t impact our economy? The Office of the Surgeon General states obesity cost our economy $117 million in the year 2000 alone!

What state do you live in? Here’s your stats for how many people in your state are obese; not just simply overweight, but obese.

Would you help do something about our nation’s economic situation? While you’re at it, encourage friends and family members to join in as well. Bonus—people feel better when they’re healthier. Worst case scenario is we free up some bucks and add life to our years.

Regardless of which sport you choose to enjoy during the months where precipitation turns to snowflakes, there is a drastic difference in layering. Even if it does take a little extra thought other than shorts & a “T” then winter has something summer does not: Total Control of Body Temperature. Think about it: If it’s 70 or 80 degrees outside, you already feel warm. When you warm up and go for the real workout, you’re feeling the heat. But winter time –especially because of all those layers– really can make you feel comfortable while breaking a sweat.
